This tool runs entirely in your browser: the file is never uploaded to a server, which makes it safe for sensitive documents and fast for large ones. It works on any PDF with selectable text (scanned image-only PDFs contain no text layer to extract). Free, no signup, no file leaves your machine.
Common uses: pulling a clause out of a contract to quote or search, copying a paper's body text into a reference manager or notes app, and turning a report into plain text for another tool to summarize or translate. Because the file stays on your device, it's a reasonable choice for confidential PDFs you wouldn't want to upload elsewhere.
Extraction quality depends on how the PDF was made. Digitally-created PDFs (exported from Word, Google Docs, or similar) extract cleanly. Scanned paper documents saved as PDF images have no underlying text layer at all — those need OCR (optical character recognition) first, which this tool does not perform.

Does it work on scanned PDFs?
It extracts selectable text. Scanned or image-only PDFs have no text layer, so little or nothing will be extracted — those need OCR, which this tool does not perform.
Is there a file size limit?
Up to 25MB per PDF, which covers the vast majority of documents, contracts, and papers.
Does it preserve formatting like tables or columns?
It extracts plain text in reading order. Complex layouts — multi-column pages, tables — may come out with different spacing than the original; the underlying words and order are preserved.
Can I extract text from just one page?
The tool extracts text from the entire PDF at once. Trim the file to the pages you need beforehand if you only want part of it.
